In order to integrate the chemico-physical measurements along the water column collected by the sensors installed on the ODAS Italia 1 buoy, having a draft of about 36 m, a subsurface mooring is occasionally deployed at about 3 km far from the main buoy.
The mooring has the capability to acquire salinity and temperature measurements down to 1200 m depth with about one year of autonomy.
The data collected by the deepest CTD probe (at about 1000 m depth) have been transmitted in near real time by means of an acoustic link between the main buoy and the mooring itself.
